So evo 's Harry Metcalfe just retweeted this. What the hell is this awesome-o-mazatron, you might ask in slightly different words? It's the 1970 Vauxhall SRV Concept. As you can see, the dials are fixed to the door and slide across when it's open for no apparent reason. But there's more!

Handle-less suicide rear doors. Fixed seats with adjustable controls. Self-leveling rear suspension. Active front aerodynamics. These are new and exciting features from the last 10 years, right? Try 43 years ago! On top of these things, the Styling Research Vehicle has space for four adults despite being just 41 inches high, those crazy instruments, and most peculiarly of all, the ability to redistribute the fuel (needed by its rear/mid-mounted 2.3L slant-four) between different tanks to adjust the handling. That idea's a new one on me, and surely it would get less and less useful as you kept driving?

As you can see, the central front aerofoil with VAUXHALL printed on it can pivot up and down as necessary, like those flaps on a Pagani Huayra. This is possibly the last cool thing Vauxhall themselves made (the Lotus Carlton is a Lotus, the Monaro is a Holden and anything else is probably an Opel). I love it!

4 pedals? left foot clutch/brake , right foot brake gas? A SOLUTION to left foot braking. So before it's time.

I also like the fact they are spread out some.

OMG! I hadn't noticed that. Maybe one's a foot rest? Four pedals would be awesome, whatever it might be that the fourth one did.

Here's a video showing the inside and 2 other concepts. Second one looks like a vette body and 3rd concept looks like a pontiac solstice kinda.

Wow, that guy runs like a champ...

The VX Lightning Concept was going to replace the VX220/Opel Speedster, but in the end it was developed into the LHD-only Opel GT/Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice and never sold in the country that designed the concept. But then, an MX-5 rival with no storage space wasn't going to sell in very big numbers.

I sat in a Pontiac Solstice. I'm 6'2" 260 lbs - it wasn't pretty.
